Before treatment is applied, a patient needs to undergo a thorough biomechanical evaluation to determine the proper treatment areas. Many times the tape will be applied after the joints have been cleared of any restrictions and the associated muscles have been worked to remove any fascia adhesions. To many people's surprise, kinesiotape is not applied with a great deal of tension. In fact, the tape is normally applied in its natural or resting position. However the area being treated is normally placed in an elongated position as the tape is applied.
