Upper Cervical Specific Method
The upper cervical area has long been considered one of the most important if not the most important area to have balanced in the spine. It is considered so influential that at least 8 different chiropractic techniques have been created focusing solely on the upper cervical spine (Barge, Life, NUCCA, Grostic, Blair, Kale, Duff, Sweat).
Why is this area of the spine so important? There are 300 million neurons that exit the base of the skull and pass through the first and second vertebrae. These two vertebrae are designed to be the most freely movable spinal joints and because of this, they are also the most likely to misalign. Even a small misalignment may put pressure on or displace the spinal cord disrupting function throughout the body. Anatomical studies have shown direct connections between these vertebrae and the dura or covering of the spinal cord. Tension or pulling on the dura has been directly linked to migraine headaches.
The Chiropractors at Frisco Spinal Rehab place a special emphasis on closely examining the upper cervical spine. The exam may consist of x-raying the area and taking measurements, palpation, leg length checks and chiropractic instrumentation.
After performing and exam and determining exactly what is wrong, your chiropractor may use a low force percussive instrument or manual adjustment to realign the vertebrae. The precision of either the instrument or manual technique allows for a safe and gentle adjustment without the common "cracking" sound associated with chiropractic adjustments.
